Event description

The 223km stretch of hiking track just north of Alice Springs in Northern Territory explores expansive landscapes, which allow you to witness and admire all the miraculous shapes and forms that the Earth is made up of. Just some of the highlights of this 6 days, 5 night trek include the West Macdonnell Ranges, Ormiston Gorge, Mount Sonder and Finke River.

(We are not walking the whole trail. We will we trakking sections 10,11 and 12).

While we hike with day packs only, we will be sleeping in swags outside and under the stars. This is truly an out there and fun adventure to really experience Australian outback.

Larapinta Trail isn’t for the faint-hearted hiker. With extreme temperatures, large distances, isolated locales and arduous hiking paths, you need to make sure you are organised and prepared before conquering the Larapinta trail.

Hiking distances range from 9km to 15km each day. Don’t worry, you will only be carrying your water and daily supplies but will need a moderate level of fitness to get you through some tough terrain. An experienced guide and Women Want Adventure Leader, will also be escorting the group.

There is a transport car taking our swags or other supplies to our camping destination each night.

Graded hard difficulty. This challenging (but rewarding) 26km section of the trail is through the more scenic part. We will be camping out overnight along the trail. Our transport truck will be meeting us each night. The sacrifice of this incredible scenery is no hot showers for two nights. The landscape at this end is dominated by Mt Sonder, the fourth highest mountain in the Northern Territory. We will finish day 4 at RedBank Gorge campsite, in the shadow of the Mountain itself.

Today we are up with the possums (1am) for an early start to climb to the top of the iconic Mount Sonder. The Mountain is known traditionally as Rwetyepme. In local Indigenous Dreaming, she's a pregnant woman forever doomed to lay on her back and watch the sky - the mountain peaks resembling the woman in the legend. It's an arduous climb, but you will return to Alice Springs tonight where the group will be dropped at the Aurora Hotel for a nice well earn't shower, rest and to celebrate the days of hiking with a special farewell dinner.

Day 6 (30th June): Deparate Alice Springs

Meals included: Buffet breakfast

After breakfast at the Aurora's in-house restaurant, you will have the morning to explore Alice Springs. Take a stroll through Todd Mall, where you can explore the many local Indigenous art galleries, and heritage buildings. If you're still wanting to stretch your legs, an early morning walk to the top of nearby Anzac Hill is a great way to view the beautiful Alice Spings sunrise. Airport transfers will be provided for you in time for your departure.
