Do you want to feel more confident about riding and looking after your bike?

If so, this course is for you!

Our workshop is run by a female instructor, and is open to all women, non-binary and gender non-conforming people.

In a traffic-free environment, you'll learn and practice basic and essential bike control skills including:

  • smooth starting
  • stopping
  • using gears
  • scanning
  • signalling
  • emergency stops.

There will be a discussion on planning a route, riding assertively, positioning yourself on the road, and a short demonstration of bike maintenance basics.

Please meet at the REAR CARPARK of the Darebin Arts Centre.

Is there an age limit?

  • Yes. This course is only available to adults aged 18+.

How do I get there?

  • Bike: Ride along the St Georges Road shared path to Bell Street. You can explore all our Bike Shimmy Routes in this google map. And you can download a copy of our TravelSmart Map via our website.
  • Train: Take your bike on the train to Bell Station which is a 2 minute walk away (South Morang line). You can also use the PTV App to help plan your journey.
  • Car: Car-parking is available at Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre car park.

What should I bring?

  • A bicycle in good condition with working brakes, a bell and pumped up tyres.
  • A well fitting bicycle helmet.
  • Runners or similar closed-toe footwear.
  • Sun/weather protection.
  • A bottle of water.
  • A snack (optional).

I don't live, work or study in Darebin. Can I do this workshop?

  • Unsold tickets will be made available for people from outside Darebin one week prior to the workshop.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

  • No. You don't need to bring your ticket on the day.

What is the refund policy?

  • We offer refunds up to 7 days before the workshop. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds after this time. However, If you are unable to attend the workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, you may transfer your ticket to another friend or family member by updating your registration online.
