Event description

Description

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to make your mark in Data Science on International Women's Day.

As part of the 2018 Stanford WIDS conference, UTS is proud to host an event celebrating the women of Data Science in Sydney. We invite all women (and the men who want to support them) to join us for a full day of conversation, connection, networking, training and awareness raising. Speakers include industry leaders, shapeshifters and datapreneurs.

Join us on campus at UTS to hear from an exciting lineup of leading women in Data Science as they discuss the evolving challenges of equity, diversity, and gender within the world of Data Science, as well as the opportunities in the field for women of the next generation. The Women in Data Science Sydney Conference will feature an opening address from Amy Shi-Nash of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, lightning talks showcasing recent graduates of the UTS Master of Data Science and Innovation, and compelling panel discussions on Data Ethics and Data Science Futures.

Snippets of talks at the 2018 Conference at Stanford University will also be shown via delayed broadcast.

The last part of the Day Session will give you the opportunity to engage in practical Masterclasses. From uncovering the data of a LinkedIn profile, to workplace tactics for dealing with unconscious bias, the Masterclasses are here to help you get ahead of your Data Science career.

Doors open at 8:30am for a 9am start, with Masterclasses ending at 5pm.

Our Day Session and Masterclasses will be followed by Networking Drinks, a keynote address from Anita Sood of Microsoft, and a Great Debate in the style of the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Great Debate series (5:30pm - 8pm) on the proposition that: “It’s time to turn the machines over to women.”

Please Note: Registrants who wish to attend both the Conference and the Debate must register for both events. This registration is for the Day Session of the Women in Data Science Sydney Conference.
