Event description

Description

The UnionsACT Women’s Committee would like to invite you to an inspiring public forum to discuss women and work. The event, held at Hotel Kurrajong on Thursday the 16th of August from 6:30pm-8pm, will host a range of strong women who will bring their perspectives to this important topic.

There will also be opportunities for active participation from attendees. Tackling issues such as the gender pay gap, superannuation, sexual harassment and women’s caring roles this discussion is essential for active union women to attend. It will be MC’d by the Deputy Director of The Australia Institute, Ebony Bennett, who will be in conversation with Dr Elizabeth Hill, a co-author of the Women and the Future of Work Report. The report, released this year by the University of Sydney, has investigated new terrain in the ongoing discrimination of women at work; specifically around management, work and life balance, job security and aspirations.

Ms Ebony Bennett is the Deputy Director of The Australia Institute and has worked in federal politics for more than a decade. Ms Bennett has published research on gender and street harassment and regularly appears as a commentator on Sky News and as a contributor for the Guardian and Fairfax publications.

Elizabeth's research focuses on the political economy of gender, work and care in the Asia Pacific. She has published on women's work and collective action in the Indian informal economy, work and care regimes in Australia and the Asia Pacific, and employment policy in India. Elizabeth is interested in how economic institutions shape women’s paid work, unpaid care and the care workforce – especially as they evolve in response to the dynamics of the national and global political economy.
