Event description

Description

With Woman is a three day retreat for midwives, doulas, student midwives, birth-workers, doctors, academics, educators and anyone who works with women.

The childbirth rite of passage is a time of enormous transformation and growth for women. The beliefs, attitudes and fears of those supporting a women influence her experience and her sense of self during transformation.

This retreat will be a journey into the roles and responsibilities of those who hold space for births to unfold.

We will share a weekend of connection, community, learning and nurturing, learning skills, and ways of being that support the physiology of birth and the transformative aspects of the birth experience.

We will deeply explore what each of us brings into our relationships with childbearing women, and how that influences our presence at birth. And we will focus on how to be ‘with woman’ in today's complex birthing climate.

Women with Babies

This Retreat welcomes women in all life phases and we support women with babies who wish to attend. There are some extra considerations for women wishing to bring their babies along.

Onsite sleeping arrangements may not be suitable for women with ‘babes in arms’ or ‘babies on the move’. Beds are single or bunk style, with limited single room space.

Women with ‘babies in arms’ may like to consider arranging a support person to care for the baby during the Retreat and workshops

Women with ‘babies on the move’ will need to arrange a support person or carer to come along for the duration of the Retreat.

If bringing a support person and choosing to stay onsite the cost for the carer is $55 per night. There will be an additional cost for carer meals.

Please contact Judy to discuss attending the retreat with a baby and/or support person.

Rachel is committed to the task of reclaiming women’s rights, and rites in childbirth. She is also the author of the MidwifeThinking blog.

Marie-Louise Lapeyre has been a midwife for 20 years, she has worked in tertiary hospitals, small country hospitals, has attended home-births and worked in South-Sudan. She is graduate of the School for Shamanic Womancraft.

During this time her curiosity has led her to investigate the relationship between the physiology of birth, neurology, sociology, biology, psychology and epigenetics. Her conclusion is that kindness and presence are integral to the feminine practise of midwifery and that considering birth from an animistic perspective has the potential to be truly transformative.
