Event description
Winter Solstice is the great stillness before the Sun's strength builds, and days grow longer. It can be a time to rest and reflect.

About this Event

Winter Solstice marks the middle of winter, also known as the longest night of the year.

In winter everything lies dormant in the silent earth, it is a sacred time of rest and reflection before the awakening and the slow build toward brighter days.

The energy of winter is that of going within. It's the fruitful darkness and silence out of which our soul's yearnings and new inspirations can eventually emerge. As we consciously link our awareness to nature's cycles, our understanding of our own personal growth cycles begin to deepen.

Spending time with ourselves & becoming quieter feels more natural in the colder months, we have warm comforting foods, wear slippers & wrap ourselves in blankets, its our unconscious way of aligning ourselves with the temperament of the season. Dark & moody, introverted & slower.

The intent of this retreat is to spend some time in nature, quietly reflect on our inner voice during these darker months & prepare of the longer days & spring to come, for new growth & intentions to be considered. There is of course also the chance to just get away for a day & unwind away from the stresses of our everyday lives.

The retreat & accommodation options are set out in such a way that you can choose the activities you wish to participate in & will have time to explore the grounds of Riverdell & relax as well.

**Yin Yoga is: On the surface, a Yin practice might seem uneventful. In Yin yoga, one of many types of yoga, sequences are a series of slow, long holds and mat-based postures that stretch out the connective tissues and fascia in the body.

It’s a practice for all level of yogis. Unlike Vinyasa and other yoga styles, in Yin all you need to do is relax in the pose. But this, as most of us know from meditation, often isn’t as easy or comfortable as it sounds!

To do Yin is to give over control – such a rare and therapeutic concept in our modern day lives.

The term “yin yoga” comes from the Taoist tradition. Yang relates to movement, creating heat in the body. Yin is about finding stillness and cooling the body. And, the theory goes, we need both to find balance and be our most optimal selves.

***Optional evening Bonfire: Fire Ceremony for Release & Rebirth

You may want to take time to honor and acknowledge the endings & new beginnings in your life in a ceremony or personal ritual that both honors your past and clears space to make room for what you wish for the coming year.

Make an offering that represents the past and give it to the Spirit of Fire as a completion. Then spend a bit of time dreaming and visioning to bring into focus what you would like to experience and bring into being in the coming year.
