Event description

Description

Windows into Wartime is the third in a series of four exhibitions produced by State Records NSW for the Centenary of Anzac – 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War. It features images produced by NSW government photographers during and immediately after the Great War that document and promote how society came together to support Australia’s military campaign overseas.

Photographers captured a society making advancements in public health and volunteerism, the organising of recruitment campaigns and patriotic fundraising events, to the Red Cross movement and soldier support schemes. These photographs have been digitised and reproduced from original glass plate negatives especially for the exhibition.

Windows into Wartime is presented at the Western Sydney Records Centre from 17 October 2016 to 9 September 2017 and will tour Broken Hill, Newcastle, Wagga Wagga, Armidale and Wollongong.
