The ‘smart city’ vision mobilises information technology and big data to make our cities more efficient, greener, safer and more people-centric. But will the smart city advance the interests of Big Tech or Big Government at the expense of citizens? Will smart technology lead to better urban futures?

Join the RMIT Centre for Urban Research for a critical and jovial debate to honour one of Australia’s foremost transport advocates and planning scholars, Dr Paul Mees OAM, and his contribution to local and international urban transport and planning.

Chaired by comedy legend and Research Associate at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute Rod Quantock OAM, our panel of planning industry professionals, politicians and academics will debate the topic: Will smart city technology lead to a better future?
