Event description

Description

How is wild nature present among the bitumen and busyness of city living? How might our lives and cities be transformed through a deeper listening to the wildness that surrounds and grounds us? Wild City is a performance art project that invites you to engage creatively with wild nature, within our daily urban lives.

Join Meredith Elton and theatre and movement artist Noa Rotem for an afternoon on the banks of man-made Lake Orr. There are more than 400 kilometres of constructed canals on the GC. What do canals, wetlands and waterways more generally know about flow, acceleration, slowing down, and softening at our edges? Let’s be curious about the possibilities and power of finding our wild in the most unlikely of places.

Through guided movement meditations and sensory explorations we will attune both to the ‘inner nature’ of our somatic experience and to the specific ‘outer nature’ of Lake Orr and surrounds. How does the relationship between body and place open new possibilities for connecting to and collaborating with nature? And for engaging more deeply our responsibility and care for the places we live?

Be part of the initial research and creative development of Wild City and find out how you can become further involved in the project.

Details of what to bring will be emailed to registered participants 2 days before the workshop.

Wild City acknowledges the people of the Yugambeh language region, the traditional owners of the land on which we meet, and pays respect to their elders past, present and emerging.
