Event description
Wicking garden beds use much less water and, even better, require less maintenance than conventional garden beds to grow thriving plants.

About this Event

Get along to a free workshop delivered by the Very Edible Gardens (VEG) team for the City of Kingston OurPlace program.

This hands-on practical session will cover the science and logistics of building a wicking bed, including:

  • How wicking beds work and what they offer, including water and labour savings & easy vegetable gardening
  • When wicking beds are great option, and when they might not be
  • Q and A session for all your raised bed plant growing questions

With a how-to component involving converting an existing bed, we'll explore the common pitfalls with building a wicking bed and how to avoid them, and have some fun along the way! Physical participation is voluntary and further online reading and resources are discussed.

NOTE: This is just one of two wicking bed workshops held in November 2019 by the City of Kingston, the other being at Melaleuca Community Garden on 23rd November, to be booked separately.
