Description

Just as our brains are divided into two hemispheres; the left side for logic and right side for creativity, there is often a divide between business strategy and design within many organisations. With the rise of exponential technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR), the role of design is reshaping the way businesses tackle strategic problems. Design thinking principles enable designers to utilise data and visually communicate abstract concepts. Communicating such concepts is often difficult to explain in business strategy alone. By bringing forth unique problem-solving capabilities, designers are able to enrich business conversations and illuminate relationships, considerations, and implications of a company at a strategic level. If design can help tackle business problems so well, then why aren’t designers a bigger part of the decision-making process? Solving business problems requires a balance of traditional business strategy and design methods. Companies can nurture the benefits of design by establishing an environment that supports design and technology-led decision making as part of their business models. At this Lunch and Learn, learn from Mark Eagleton, Senior UX Designer at Tennis Australia. With Mark, you’ll be discussing and exploring the following:

  • How companies can rethink business problems using design principles
  • How design principles can help de-risk new business models
  • Why a design approach is crucial to creating a future of sustainable businesses
  • The growth of circular design
  • The balance between traditional methods of designers vs. the approach of business consultants
  • How businesses can leverage the unique talents of designers to influence their business strategy
