WHQ International Women's Day Celebration of Women's Leadership

About this Event
You are invited to join Women's Health Queensland (WHQ) on International Women's Day.
The free event will include a welcome to country, guests speakers highlighting the voices of leaders at the community level, a premiere screening of the video project WHQ undertook last year with Glass Engine – 7 Women, 7 Questions, and afternoon tea.

3pm – Event start – Afternoon Tea
3.30pm – Welcome to Country - Songwoman Maroochy Baramabah - of Turrbal-Gubbi Gubbi ancestry, was born on Cherbourg Aboriginal Reserve in Queensland. She is the Songwoman and Law-woman of the Turrbal Tribe. Maroochy attended the Melba Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne and the Victorian College of the Arts where she graduated in Dramatic Arts. Maroochy has had extensive involvement in the Aboriginal community over the last 5 decades. She has delivered several lectures on Aboriginal culture at various institutions and was a keynote speaker at the Australian Reconciliation Convention in Melbourne.
3.40pm Speakers
- Introduction by Amy MacMahon - South Brisbane MP - Amy is a carer, auntie and activist, with a background in social science research, teaching and community work. Her political and parliamentary work is driven by feminist ethics.
- Yasmin Khan - Director of the Bangle Foundation, champion of diversity and women, and Qld Australian of the Year 2017 Local Hero Award Winner
- Alice Currie - Proud Mununjahli woman from Yugambeh country located South East Queensland. She has over 10 year’s experience working across government, creative agencies and Indigenous community organisations in various roles in marketing and communications.
