Event description

Description

With the planet all but drowning in single use disposable plastic, Western Australia is finally banning plastic shopping bags. Want to ditch your supermarket bags in style and learn some pretty cool skills at the same time?

Transition Town Guildford invites you to take part in a workshop to sew your own shopping bags and/or drawstring vegetable bags. We’re running two of each workshop (1. Shopping bags and 2. Vegetable produce bags) in May and June, ready for the 1 July ban to kick in.

We’ll have sewing machines at our workshops, but if you have your own, please bring it along.

For $10 you get:

  • a sewing pattern;

  • instructions;

  • two bags cut out;

  • all the notions you need;

  • a three-hour guided workshop to make up your own bags; and

  • Tea, coffee and snacks.

Absolute beginners are welcome, we’ll take it as slowly as you need. We’ll also have tea, coffee and snacks on hand to keep you going. It’s going to be fun, and you’ll be making a big difference to the planet.

All workshops are at the Guildford Mechanics’ Hall, a short five-minute stroll from Guildford train Station.

The dates for the workshops are as follows:

1. Saturday 12 May, 2-5pm: Make your own shopping bags

2. Saturday 9 June, 2-5pm: Make your own drawstring vegetable bags

3. Sunday 10 June, 9.30-12.30pm: Make your own shopping bags

4. Saturday 30 June, 2-5pm: Make your own drawstring vegetable bags

Note: By registering for this event, you are registering for the workshop on the 9th of June (Make your own vegetable bags).
