Where is Jiā? 何處為家? Chinese LGBTIQA+ stories of displacement
Overview
Where is “home” when home isn’t safe?
In this Mardi Gras season, join ANTRA (Australia & New Zealand Tongzhi Rainbow Alliance) and Associate Professor Quah Ee Ling (Western Sydney University) for an engaging public talk and panel conversation on JIA 家—a community research report on the lived experiences, challenges and support needs of forcibly displaced queer Chinese migrants in Australia.
Together we will explore:
- What can compel queer Chinese people to leave their home countries
- The realities of settling in Australia (including belonging, isolation and navigating systems)
- What meaningful support can look like—community, peer networks, culturally safe services and practical pathways
The session will include audience Q&A. This is an English-language event and is open to community members, allies, service providers and anyone interested in multicultural LGBTIQA+ wellbeing and inclusion.
