Where is Jiā? 何處為家? Chinese LGBTIQA+ stories of displacement

By Willoughby City Library

Overview

Join Associate Professor Ee Ling Quah and a panel discussing the JIA 家 report on forcibly displaced queer Chinese migrants.

Ethnically Chinese LGBTIQA+ individuals in parts of Asia often face discrimination and repression, forcing many to leave their home countries, Australia being a common destination due to its supportive legal and social environment, including the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Associate Professor Ee Ling Quah from Western Sydney University’s School of Arts, along with a panel of guests, will discuss the JIA 家 report, and the motivations for leaving, challenges in migrating and settling in Australia, and the types of support needed, with the aim of informing and strengthening community support services.

A Q&A portion will follow which is sure to generate further dialogue.
