About this event

Sentencing is a core part of the judicial system, and in this session you will hear from County Court Chief Judge Peter Kidd and Deputy Chief Judge M Sexton as they provide their unique perspective in discussing all things sentencing.

Throughout the session you will be taken through topics like: What are the principals of sentencing? What factors are considered when a judge sentences an accused? Is the approach different for a young offender? What happens if a young offender doesn’t stick to the conditions of a non-custodial order?

This is an opportunity for audiences to gain a deeper understanding of the sentencing process and what goes on behind the scenes from those who know it best.

This is a great opportunity to have any of your sentencing related questions answered. You are encouraged to submit any of your questions ahead of the session by emailing communications@countycourt.vic.gov.au, including the subject line, ‘What’s in a Sentence?’

This event will be held online via Zoom. Bookings are essential.

This session will be recorded. If you cannot make it on the day, the video will be made available on the County Court website following the conclusion of the program.

This event is held as part of Victorian Law Week 2022.
