Description

Do you work with children or teenagers who:

  • Bring their face very close to their work?

  • Don’t seem to notice or focus on things that other children do?

  • Have a strong preference for looking at lights, windows, moving or glittery things?

Some of these signs may mean that a child has vision difficulties. They may need support to:

  • Use their vision to the best of their ability

  • Make some changes to their environment

  • Use assistive technology to do the things they want to do eg play, read


Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists working with children and teenagers with vision impairments. This can include issues with acuity, ocular-motor problems and cortical visual impairments (CVI).


Benefits of attending:

In attending this workshop you will learn more about the challenges some children with vision difficulties face and what you can do to help them by building on your knowledge of:

  • the visual system,

  • visual assessments - including visual-motor and CVI Range

  • the impact of visual difficulties on function such as play and communication

  • interventions and strategies to support individuals with visual difficulties to enhance their participation in everyday settings such as the home, school and community


FAQs

What pre-existing knowledge do I need to benefit from this workshop?

Some knowledge of the visual system and visual impairment is an advantage but not essential. Some experience with paediatric assessment (not vision specific), goal setting and intervention planning will be assumed knowledge.

Will this training address my situation specific to the child/ teenager I am working with?

This workshop includes general information about vision, visual assessment and interventions. There will be some opportunities to discuss specific cases. However if more specific information is required you can request a consult with one of our specialist OTs.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is accessible by public transport (bus). There is on-site parking at Novita's Regency Park Office.
