About this event

Westmeadows Indigenous and Community Garden Open Day and BBQ lunch

Saturday 18 June, 10am-1pm including Garden Tours and BBQ lunch

This beautiful garden in the heart of Westmeadows, has plenty of open space surrounding it and is dedicated to Indigenous and community gardening.

In 2021, Jo Russell, with support from the Hume Enviro Champions program and Council, began an Indigenous Food, Fiber and Medicine garden on site through a community planting day.

In 2022 we are going to add to the indigenous planting with the help of volunteers from the Enviro Champions program and community. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the cultural uses for indigenous plants and also to meet this year's Enviro Champions and hear about their ideas to make Hume cleaner, greener and more sustainable place.

During the day the Vardos musical trio will be roaming around the garden filling spaces with the sweet sounds of Romany and Folk tunes. If you hear Alana's wild violin, following close behind will be the accordion and double base. These wonderful musicians are based in Melbourne but have toured internationally and appeared in film and television.

Garden members will be providing tours of the garden before lunch.

There will be a BBQ lunch with vegetarian and gluten free options.

Registrations are essential to assist with numbers for catering.

What to bring to this garden event:
