Description
West Village’s new parkland – The Common on Boundary Street, West End – is set to open a dedicated children’s sensory garden, including it's very own chicken coop! To celebrate the opening of the sensory garden, West Village in conjunction with CitySmart, is launching West Village Eco Kids – a series of green workshops for children of all ages. The workshops will run for 3 weeks (weekdays from 9am - 10am) with a different activity on each day of the week. Best of all, all the workshops are completely FREE!
WORKSHOP DETAILS
Monday (7th, 14th & 21st January) - Plant & Gardening Workshop
- Show off your green thumb and get your hands dirty with this Plant & Gardening Workshop! Choose a pot made from reclaimed materials and plant a herb seedling to take home with you. There will also be an interactive worm farm that you can explore - how fun!
Tuesday (8th, 15th & 22nd January) - Handmade Butterfly Mural Workshop
- Are you a fan of origami? Then this workshop is for you! Make beautiful paper butterflies using recycled books and magazines, then turn your creations into a wall hanging mural by attatching them to a decorative branch! Your handmade mural will be the perfect decoration for your bedroom or loungeroom!
Wednesday (9th, 16th & 23rd January) - Grass Heads Workshop
- Think a pet rock meets a pot plant - and you've got yourself a Grass Head! This hands-on workshop will combine your artistic flair with your green thumb. You'll have your very own Grass Head to take home, water and watch grow.
Thursday (10th, 17th & 24th January) - Flower Crown Workshop
- Summer is finally here and that means that flowers are in full bloom! Make your own beautiful flower crown using Summer daisies, it's the perfect accessory to celebrate the warmer weather.
Friday (11th, 18th & 25th January) - Bees & Backyard Chooks Workshop
- Are you an animal lover? If your answer is yes, then this Bees & Backyard Chooks Workshop is for you! Get up close and personal with native and european bees, as well as chickens and chicks, and learn all about these beautiful creatures. You'll even get to taste some honey collected from the West Village bee hives and make your own beeswax candle to take home!
