The Wellness Walk is for people just like you who are seeking to experience to sheer calm and clarity of mindfulness. Mindfulness Walking is a practice of bringing focused attention to the present moment, without getting all caught up in your mind like can happen in traditional sitting mindfulness.
The Wellness Walk is based on the principles of walking mindfulness, so we begin with simply walking along and observing nature. At various points during the walk we pause and sit in a group for a mindfulness discussion led by the Walk facilitator. Then we turn and head back to the starting point. It's a very powerful exercise in simplicity.
During the walk we observe silence and stillness as best we can. There are a four points where we take a rest and actually practice mindfulness from a unique place. This means you get to enter and practice mindfulness and helps you build up your skills for your own practice.
Mindfulness is about increasing our self awareness in the moment so we have more skills to rely on during times of stress and crisis. It is proven that practitioners of mindfulness have greater reserves of mental flexibility when confronted with challenging behaviour - so assisting with making better decisions in the heat of the moment. This is a priceless benefit of mindfulness.
The Wellness Walk is an independent initiative of MindBodyCalm, a wellness collective facilitated by Bren Murphy.
The overall energy of the activity is calm, centred and mindful. We are not promoting any cause or religious affiliation or political agenda. It's just simply a beautiful outdoor moving space to inhabit for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon with gentle, calm and grounded like minded people. Please respect each other person's right to silence, privacy and personal space.
The Wellness Walk is at a calm steady pace, so you can participate even with limited fitness. Please wear sensible shoes and ensure your mobile phone doesn't beep or buzz during the walk. My wife is child educator and will be minding my three daughters plus one at the beach, so child minding can be arranged - get in touch.
Clothing / Footwear
Please bring footwear that is ok to be wet - we might be walking along rockpools or shallow water. Also a hat and sunglasses as preferred. I carry some insect repellent spray if you need it.
