About this Event

Theoretical Basics of Fascia

All manual therapists have at some point learned “myofascial release” and most have now heard that fascia cannot be “released”. This 90 minute webinar will take a look at the basic science of fascia – its physiology, its micro anatomy and macro anatomy, what the research says about its role in the body and how it is relevant to clients who have pain or injury.

We’ll take a look at the recent directions in fascial research, including some fascinating studies about fascia and cancer. And we’ll consider the evidence that leads some people to believe that fascia cannot be treated through manual therapy – AND the evidence that suggests it can.

The participants will :

-Have an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of connective tissue, especially fascia .

-Understand the concept of force transmission and the role that fascia plays in movement and stability .

-Have a brief overview of recent research including interoception, oncology, scar tissue and internal dysfunctions in the context of fascial interconnectedness .

-Understand the key arguments against manual treatment of fascial dysfunction .

-Understand the key arguments for manual treatment of fascial dysfunction .

Jenny is a Myotherapist and Massage Therapist who has been practising in Canberra for the last 14 years. After 11 years in the public service, Jenny did a number of things while searching for a career that was more meaningful and rewarding and fell into massage by accident. She is so glad she did. She discovered she is passionate about understanding how the body works and using this to help clients with chronic pain and injuries that just won’t heal.

Jenny is a lifelong student/ learner and has done a range of training with teachers such as Dr Antonio Stecco, Marjorie Brook, David Weinstock, Dr Kathy Dooley, Robert Libbey, Katy Bowman, Thomas Myers, James Waslaski, and our very own Jeff Murray and Dr. Paul Conneely. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours), undertaking research into the work of experienced massage therapists.

Jenny presented at the Soft Tissue Conference in 2015, the AMT conferences in 2016 and 2018, and for several years acted as Teaching Assistant in Levels 1 and 2 Neurokinetic Therapy workshops in Australia and Level 3 overseas. Similarly, Jenny was recruited as Training Assistant with Marjorie Brook and James Waslaski for their Australian workshops.
