This three-part webinar series will cover the fundamentals of food allergy and food allergens, industry best practice for allergen management, allergen labelling and food recalls.

Experts have been invited to participate and will share their knowledge and experience on specialist topics such as laboratory allergen analysis and the application of allergen management at their manufacturing site.

These webinars will create a valuable resource to assist in understanding food allergens, why they should be considered and how to ensure that they are identified, managed, controlled and labelled on food products.




Webinar 1: Food Allergen Fundamentals

22 March 2018 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm AEDT

This webinar will introduce allergens, allergy and allergen management.

It will link the burden of food allergy to allergic patients (and their communities) with the importance of allergen management for the food supply chain.

A case study will demonstrate the importance of consideration of allergen management at every stage of product development and marketing.




Webinar 2: Identification, Control and Management

19 April 2018 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm AEST

This webinar will provide strategies to implement and maintain an allergen management plan.

Allergen analysis is often applied ineffectively to verify and validate the allergen management plan - the benefits and limitations of allergen analysis will be discussed in order to assist participants in using this technology to effectively support an allergen management plan.

A case study will be presented which demonstrates the importance of using an allergen management plan effectively.




Webinar 3: Product Labelling and Recalls

24 May 2018 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm AEST

Product recalls due to incorrect allergen labelling represent a large proportion of product recalls in Australia.

This webinar will discuss the recall system in Australia and how to manage a recall. Mandatory requirements and industry guidance for allergen labelling for business-to-business and retail product will be discussed.

A case study will be presented to show the importance of appropriate labelling and the impact of product recall.




This is a free event hosted by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science Entrepreneurs' Programme in collaboration with Food Industry Australia Limited (FIAL).

FIAL is an industry led, government funded initiative focused on collaboratively growing the share of Australian food in the global marketplace.


This event is designed to benefit small and medium Australian businesses from the Food and Agribusiness industry sector.
