About this Event

Webinar: Climate change and health guidance for local government

The Tackling climate change and its impacts on health through municipal public health and wellbeing planning: Guidance for local government, 2020 has been developed by the Department of Health and Human Services to assist councils in meeting their legislative obligations under the Climate Change Act 2017 and the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. It highlights opportunities for councils to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of their communities through climate change action and builds on the significant work that councils are already delivering across Victoria.

The guidance and a summary document are available for download from the Municipal public health and wellbeing planning and climate change, Health.Vic webpage: https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/environmental-health/climate-weather-and-public-health/climate-change-and-health/municipal-public-health-wellbeing-planning

The department would like to invite all councils and interested stakeholders (such as Victorian Greenhouse Alliances, primary care partnerships, and community health services) to attend a webinar where we will present an overview of the guidance, case studies of council programs and answer audience questions.

Officers from different business areas of council are encouraged to join the webinar. This includes officers working in the areas of health planning, health promotion, health and wellbeing, environmental health, climate change, sustainability, emergency management, community and social planning, community services, urban design and open space planning, community facilities, building and asset management, transport, traffic and civil engineering, and communications and community engagement.
