Event description

Description

In support of the 2018 Mandurah Wearable Art competition we are running this workshop exploring a range of different fabric dyeing techniques and how to create texture and surface pattern.

Creating texture and pattern in your wearable art adds another degree of complexity and uniqueness, allowing you to create work that warrants closer exploration and consideration on a more intricate level. Interesting and sophisticated dyeing might also be used in a complimentary or conflicting way to create movement, pattern, texture and transform your work into something technically and aesthetically innovative and remarkable.

In the morning we will explore some of the more accessible methods of dyeing, the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of each. We will provide demonstrations as well as opportunities to try a range of different techniques.

In the afternoon we will explore how we might create texture by mixing media and materials, adding surface detail as well as layering and collaging to add depth and tactility.

This workshop will:

  • Introduce you to different fabric dyeing techniques
  • Allow you to experiment with different dyes to better understand the effects
  • Learn how to create surface pattern and texture
  • Share tips and tricks
