Event description

Description

You may know him as the co-author of Clinical Sports Medicine, or perhaps the Team Doctor for the Australian Cricket team, or is it as a world renowned sports medicine clinician and resercher? His credentials and achievements stretch as far as the eye can see; but there's no doubt that Professor Peter Brukner is regarded as an expert in his field, and the Myotherapy Association Australia are excited to have him presenting his talk "We are getting sicker and fatter: What can you do about it?"

Peter Brukner OAM, MBBS, FACSP, FACSM, FASMF, FFSEM is a specialist sports and exercise physician currently working with the Australian cricket team. Peter is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and Professor of Sports Medicine at Latrobe University. A founding Executive Member of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, he served two terms as President and played a key role in establishing sports medicine as a medical specialty in Australia. Peter is the co-author of the widely used text book Clinical Sports Medicine and has been team physician for professional football clubs as well as national athletics, swimming, soccer and men’s hockey teams including Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Peter was the Socceroos Team Doctor at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and more recently Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at Liverpool Football Club.

His major area of research interest has been in overuse injuries particularly stress fractures, but he has also published widely in areas such as groin pain, exercise-related lower leg pain, fatigue and the female athlete. Peter has been the keynote speaker at numerous international conferences including the World Congress of Sports Medicine, the Asian Congress of Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine and the British Association of Sports Medicine. He is currently Senior Associate Editor of the British Journal of Sports Medicine and has previously been Senior Associate Editor of the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine and Current Sports Medicine Reports as well as being a past editor of Sport Health.

Peter is passionate about changing the way Australian's look at their current diet, and in particular the impact sugar has on our health.

"Sadly, it is likely that this generation of Australians will be the first not to live longer than the previous generation.

What a legacy to leave our children."

In this talk, Peter Brukner will cover the current state of health in Australia (not good!), why we are in this situation, what we as heath practitioners can do about it, as well as the effect of diet on MSK problems and on performance.

DON'T MISS this event, as it's taken us months to secure a date with Peter Brukner. When you're that good - you're in high demand!
