Event description

Description

Professional development for teachers

Waterwatch is a water quality monitoring program that incorporates many STEM skills and is a great way to connect students with the environment.

If you are new to Waterwatch or just want to refresh your skills, come along to one of these brief sessions.

Take part in hands-on training and see the amazing new macroinvertebrate models that are available to borrow.

Session outline:

What is Waterwatch and why do we do it?
Salinity, turbidity and pH testing (hands-on learning)
Calibrating equipment and quality control
Macroinvertebrate identification (hands-on learning)
Recording data and using the database
Using statewide data in your classroom
Curriculum links and STEM links

Notes:

If you have any equipment that you would like tested/calibrated (e.g. salinity meters), bring them along.

Bring your internet-enabled phone/tablet/laptop if you have one, so you can check out the new Waterwatch database.

If you cannot attend one of these sessions, NRM Education staff may be available to run a session at your school or local waterway (dependent on numbers). Contact Danielle Dutschke for more information on 8532 9103 or email danielle.dutschke@sa.gov.au.
