There is no life without water, because water is needed to make coffee—Anon.

Collingwood Coffee College and Australian Coffee Science Lab are collaborating again to facilitate an innovative 4-hour workshop that blends the best practical experience with the latest scientific knowhow. In this unique professional development opportunity, you will learn how to make the most of the main ingredient in any coffee: water.

Workshop objectives:

During this workshop, you will:

1. Explore how water dissolves coffee solids during extraction on a molecular level.

2. Discover how minerals in water affect coffee taste.

3. Understand and use the right minerals to create your brew water.

4. Design your own recipe by calculating the correct amounts of each ingredient.

5. Take home stock solutions you make on the day, so that you can experiment more later.

Each learner will receive a certificate acknowledged by both Collingwood Coffee College and Australian Coffee Science Lab.

Watertight Workshop Delivery

This workshop is a blend of theory and practical activities for you to try, test and clarify. Each learner will also receive valuable resources for further practicing at home.

Registration & Payment

We have no minimum numbers for any of our workshops, once you have registered be assured that the workshop will go ahead. We offer an option to pay in instalments or in one hit to secure your spot. Payment must be finalised prior to workshop date.

Watertight Workshop Presenter: Dr Monika Fekete

Originally trained as a chemical engineer, Dr Monika Fekete is a highly skilled scientist with over 8 years of experience as a research chemist at Monash University and the CSIRO.

With a passion for both science and great coffee, Monika launched the Australian Coffee Science Lab in 2016, the first independent business in Australia solely dedicated to providing scientific consultation to coffee professionals. Described as Australia’s Chief Coffee Scientist by The Age, Monika Fekete has worked with some of the biggest players in the coffee scene around Australia and beyond (such as Five Senses Coffee Roasters, Pullman Espresso Accessories, Devin Loong 2-time Brewers Cup Champion or US-based coffee chemist Joseph Rivera).
