Join us for a fun and creative in-person event at Melbourne Central "The Between" Skybridge.

Bring a photo that inspires you — a pet, a person, a place, or an object — and learn how to translate it into a beautiful watercolour painting.


In this supportive, hands-on session, you’ll learn how to simplify shapes, choose colours, build layers, and capture the essence of your chosen reference with expressive watercolour techniques.


Perfect for beginners and anyone wanting personalised guidance.


Workshop Agenda (10am Start)

10:00–10:10 — Welcome, settling in & choosing your reference
10:10–10:25 — Understanding shapes, values & colour choices
10:25–10:40 — Instructor demo: sketching + first washes
10:40–11:50 — Guided painting time (individual support)
11:50–12:00 — Wrap-up, tips for next steps & group photo (optional)


FAQs

What should I bring?
Bring a printed photo reference (A5–A4 size) or a clear image on your phone. All art materials are provided.

What style of image works best?
Clear lighting, simple composition, and visible shapes/contrast work well. Pets, portraits, flowers, landscapes, objects — all welcome.

Are materials included?
Yes! All watercolour paints, brushes, paper, palettes, and other essentials are supplied. You are also welcome to bring your favourite art supplies.

Do I need previous experience?
No — this session is beginner-friendly.

How many spots are available?
Only 7 spots to ensure personalised guidance.

Will I get a reminder before the workshop?
Yes — we’ll send you an email reminder with the exact meeting details 2 days before the event.

Will I receive anything after the workshop?
Yes — you’ll receive a digital handout for post-workshop practice at home.

Can I get a refund?
Yes. Contact the organiser directly to arrange a transfer to another workshop.

What if it rains?
We’ll be indoors at Melbourne Central Skybridge, so the session will go ahead as planned.

Is this suitable for kids?
This workshop is designed for adults, but older teens are welcome with a guardian.

Directions to "The Between" Skybridge at Melbourne Central

  1. Enter Melbourne Central via Swanston St, La Trobe St, or Elizabeth St.
  2. Head to Level 1 and find the CUE store (Shop 123/211 La Trobe St).
  3. Walk a little further down the corridor.
  4. You’ll see "The Between" Skybridge — a glass bridge linking Melbourne Central to Emporium Melbourne over Lonsdale Street.
