Paint for Syria
When Syrians took to the streets in peaceful protest in 2011, no-one could have predicted to horrific price history would hand them. This is a complicated, messy war, where neither side has much regard for civilians.
Its is so easy to take for granted the freedom that we have living in a country like Australia. It is easy for us to watch this play out on TV, turn it off and move on with our day. It can seem like there isn’t much that we can do - it can seem like we are too small to make any real difference,.
My sister and I have found a charity- The Karam Foundation - that is helping to make a real difference. The program that caught our eye the most is the Karma House - a community workspace where Syrian refugee youth can learn competitive skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, that are essential to advancing their educations and futures. Not only this, but Karam House is a safe and inspiring place for Syrian refugee teenagers-who went through this war and have missed out on just being teenagers.
The Karam Foundation has inspired us to try and make a difference.
All we know is how to paint - so lets paint for Syria.
We will be running fortnightly art classes, with profits going directly to the Karam House project. This is a beginners class, but all levels are welcome for a night of creating change.
Tickets are $40 - which includes the class, nibbles and live music!
