Date: Saturday 21May 2022

Time: 10 am – 4 pm

Venue: Building 3, Lions Community Hall, 8 Russell Drysdale Street, East Gosford (entrance at the rear of the building)

A workshop that combines playing with watercolours and creating lovely prints that have a unique quality. To enjoy this course, you do not have to be a ‘water colour painter’ as the medium works quite differently in this context. You need to be prepared to come and play, experiment and have some fun.

There are several ways to create a monotype and the matrix can be perspex, acetate or metal. We will be using aluminium offset printing plates, donated by a local offset printer. I have used the process you will learn on both metal and acetate matrices and had success with both.

What you need to bring

• Watercolour paints. Tubes are better than blocks for this. You do not need a huge range of colours. Water colours can be very expensive, so I’d suggest if you don’t already have watercolours, buy student quality. If you are coming with a friend, share your paints. If you fall in love with this process, you can always upgrade to artist quality later if you want.

• Water colour brushes – soft brushes that move the pigment around, various sizes

• A notebook/ artist journal

• An apron and disposable gloves - you will be using some inks prior to printing

• Ideas as to what you’d like to paint. Abstract is good

What we will provide

• The plates of various size to work on, but these will remain with TMS as they are reusable

• Gum arabic

• Inks and associated materials

• 1 sheet of Hahnemeule paper. More is available for purchase

• Some block watercolours
