All the world's greatest leaders are crammed into a room to squabble out the fate of the earth. Then Aliens show up.
Watch the Skies! brings about 40 people into one place and takes them all through a completely unique co-created story over a day-long MegaGame. You and a nation of 3-5 other players will sweet-talk, betray, and panic as mankind makes first contact with an alien intelligence. You'll come away with an incredible shared experience that no-one else on the planet has been through. Diplomacy, chaos, and tough decisions: It's like XCOM crossed with a UN summit.
The recent Shut Up and Sit Down episode on this game inspired us to run the thing in our home city. We're working with the designer and other people who've run it to change the aliens, so that video doesn't contain spoilers. You'll join a nation like the USA, UK, France or Australia and play one of these roles:
Leading the others, inspiring the team, scrabbling to make sure your country comes out on top.
Researching alien tech and trying to decode their secret messages in the Science Center.
Shaking hands, making speeches, and shouting at the other country's diplomats to get vital resolutions passed in the UN.
Commanding armies and spies on the World Map to take out the alien threat. Rolling dice, kicking ass, taking names.
Running around the place interviewing and eavesdropping to get a hot scoop in time for the daily newspaper, which is printed out for all players every turn.
Sitting in the back room laughing at all this. Who are they? What do they want? All the other players will be acting as themselves in a crazy situation, but you'll be role-playing a bizarre alien intelligence. Some experience with playing a role in tabletop RPG's or theatre is advised.
If someone signs up but doesn't show up, we'll call you. You can play in their spot for free.
Food will be for sale at the venue throughout the day. You can find more info on our blog and facebook. Watch the Skies! is designed by Jim Wallman, and first played by the UK gaming society Megagame Makers in 2014. This event is hosted by LXG.
