Event description

Where do your red and green bins go once they are collected from Parramatta homes?

Join us a free tour of the Eastern Creek Resource Recovery Park and visit the organics section of the park (which receives garden and food waste), the public drop-off section, the landfill (which closes in 2017) and the UR3R facilities which sort the red bin waste.

The tour is open only to City of Parramatta residents and businesses due to the limited number of seats on the bus. You must show proof of residence to get on the bus, as this will be a popular tour.

Bookings are essential – numbers are limited to 20 people.

Please meet at Parramatta Library entrance before we head on a minibus together for the drive to the Eastern Creek Park. We cannot meet you at the Park as cars are not allowed in certain areas. We will be joined on the bus by the Park’s Education Officer who will explain the workings of the site.

If you can't make it, please contact Julia Guo, Waste Education Officer, on 9806 8295 or and she will contact those on the waiting list to take your place.

What happens if I can’t make the tour?

Please contact Julia Guo as soon as possible on 9806 8295 or She will contact the next person on the waitlist who will take your place.

If you are running late, please call Julia on 9806 8295 as we need to leave on time in order to get to the Park at our designated time slot.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

You will need to wear fully enclosed shoes (i.e. no shoes showing toes or heels), long pants, long sleeves for the UR3R tour (you can put a long-sleeved shirt over the top of the short-sleeved shirt for this part of the tour). These are rules set by the Eastern Creek Resource Recovery Park for health and safety reasons. Unfortunately, if you don’t have these items, you can’t join the UR3R part of the tour (and this is one of the best parts of the tour, so make sure you don’t miss out!).

Please be aware that the site will smell, so wear clothes that you can change out of afterwards or can be given a thorough wash.

Please bring water, notepad, pen and a willingness to learn and ask questions during the tour.

Who can come on the tour?

Only City of Parramatta residents and businesses are able to join the tour due to the limited number of seats on the bus. You will have to show proof of address to get on the bus as it will be a popular tour. We want to make sure all City of Parramatta residents and businesses have a chance to see what happens to our household waste.

Can I still book a seat if I live in the new areas that now belong to City of Parramatta or if I live in the old areas that moved to Cumberland Council?

Yes to both!

If your home now resides in the City of Parramatta (welcome!), this will be where your bins will end up once the current waste contracts change over to us at the end of 2017. You are still being serviced by your old council.

If your Granville or Guildford home used to be a part of City of Parramatta and now resides in Cumberland Council, we are offering these tours to you because your bins are still collected by the City of Parramatta until our current waste contract ends on 5 November 2017.

Can children come to the workshop?

Children under 8 years old are not allowed on the tour as Park management requires all visitors to be 8 years and over for their site tour.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. All reasonable effort must be made to keep your children entertained and involved during the tour so don’t forget to bring those colouring pads and pencils, toys, books or whatever else your child loves to play with.

What are my transport / parking options getting to Parramatta Library (our meeting point)?

Car - There is a multi-level car park behind the library at Station Car Park (formerly known as Wentworth St Car Park).

Public Transport – the main bus stop and train station are directly across from the library. Use Transport NSW's trip planner to find the best options:

Bicycle – there are bike routes along Parramatta River and Parramatta Park to get to Parramatta Library, with bike racks at the library.
