Training Providers

The Course will be delivered by Russell Boswell of Savannah Guides to improve the guiding skills and capabilities of participants. In addition to operating these workshops, SG also operate a twice-yearly Savannah Guides School to ensure its members maintain continuous improvement of the standards of their interpretive delivery.

Savannah Guides is Australia’s leading Professional Development provider for Tour Guides. They are a not-for-profit network of Tour Guides and Operators focused on best practice and mutual respect. Members include experts in a wide range of fields that can deliver tailored training options for Tour Guides and Operators on a contracted basis. We provide ongoing support and tourism industry network linkages.

A Certificate of Ecoguide accreditation will be issued for participants adjudged to have obtained and displayed eco guide competency.

Course Information

Dates: Wednesday November 6th, 2019 to Friday 8th November, 2019.

Hours of course: The 3 day course will operate from 8.30 to 4.30 with a break for morning tea and lunch.

Participants: Up to 15 experienced guides from around the Pilbara region. Preference will be given to businesses that are participants in the Warlu Way Tourism Activation Program before opening the course participation up to the wider community. Spaces are limited so please book early on Eventbrite to secure your place.

Venue: Karratha, Hearson’s Cove and Mairee Pool. Classroom workshops will be at The Hub, 18 Hedland Place Karratha. There are full facilities including large screen TV and high-speed broadband, kitchen, restrooms, breakout areas. Field work can be done at Hearson’s Cove and Mairee Pool (or another suitable site) and a bus will be utilised to transport participants.

Transport and Accommodation: Participants will make their own way to Karratha and be responsible for their own accommodation and meals. Lunch and morning tea will be supplied on both days of the workshop. Participants and guides to be transported by minibus on days 2 and 3 for field work assessments.

Networking: The course will be an ideal opportunity to network with other Pilbara guides and to gain invaluable contacts to help grow your business.

Registration: Register via this link. Fill out the attached Ecoguide Accreditation Application form and return it by email to Neil McGilp. If your guiding history does not totally fulfil the qualification requirements, please contact Neil and discuss what allowances may be available for previous experience. An invoice will then be sent to you for payment.

Cost: The $229 per person charge for the 3 days is being charged to only cover the Ecoguide Accreditation applicant fee of $130 and the $99 annual membership fee. No charge has been made for the course. This rate has been funded by BCP and the Australian Government funded ASBAS North Australian Tourism Initiative Warlu Way Tourism Activation Program.
