Wamuran Art Competition

Terms and conditions – 2016 Wamuran Visual Art Competition

Wamuran Earth Protectors* is calling on Moreton Bay Regional artists to submit visual** art for the 2016 Wamuran Art Competition by 3pm, Friday 4th November 2016. Winning entrants will be determined according to how their artwork creatively conveys an understanding of and the need for sustainable development.

Theme: Living well within our Environment

Your work should highlight one or more of the following:

  • Informing and interpreting nature and its processes, or educating us about environmental problems
  • Re-envisioning our relationship to nature, proposing new ways for us to co-exist with our environment
  • Creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action
  • Consideration of environmental, social, cultural and economic systems and their interdependence.

*Wamuran Earth Protectors are members of Wamuran State School empowering students and community members to actively participate in caring for their environment to contribute to a sustainable future

**Visual Arts Mediums accepted: ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and mixed media.

Information on how to enter the competition forms part of the competition conditions.
Competition entry is deemed acceptance of these competition conditions.

Prizes

For entrants 13 years old and older, there are three cash prizes to be won. There is a cash prize of $300 for first prize, $150 for second prize, and $50 for third prize. All cash prizes must be redeemed by the prize winner.

For entrants 5 years to 12 years old, there are gift bag prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.,All entrants will receive a certificate of participation

Online Application Deadline: Applications are now open. Competition applications close at 9am on the 4th November. 2016

Delivery of artwork: Entrants must have their artwork completed and ready for delivery to Wamuran State School during the specified delivery date.

Monday 7th November 2016 to Friday 11th November 2016

Judging of artwork: Details of the judges will be posted on the Wamuran Earth Protectors facebook page

Friday 11th November 2016

Announcement of Winners: Winning entrants will be notified by telephone and/or email (after 6:30pm). Artworks will be photographed and displayed on the Wamuran Earth Protectors facebook page along with the names of the winning entrants.

Sunday 13th November 2016

Display of artworks: All artwork entries will be displayed at the Wamuran Earth Protectors Recycle Romp (Sunday 13th November 2016> 10am to 3pm). See “important conditions of display” below.

If you wish to sell your artwork, please inform the event organiser and we will provide your details to the buyer so that you can manage the sale after the event. No member or organiser of the event will accept payment for artwork entries.

Sunday 13th November to Tuesday 15th November 2016

Collection of artworks: Artwork can be collected after 3pm on the Sunday 13th November 2016. On the Monday 14th November and the Tuesday 15th November 2016, Artwork must be collected before 3pm.


Artwork must be collected from Wamuran State School. We will not ship/post art entries.

Pay the $20 fee for each artwork entry. Up to 10 artwork entries/applications permitted. Applications must be submitted online before 9am Friday 4th November 2016.

Creation of artwork
Entrants must create a piece that conveys an understanding of and the need for
sustainable development. The theme of the competition is “Living Well within Our Environment”

Your work should highlight one or more of the following:

  • Informing and interpreting nature and its processes, or educating us about environmental problems
  • Re-envisioning our relationship to nature, proposing new ways for us to co-exist with our environment
  • Creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action
  • Consideration of environmental, social, cultural and economic systems and their interdependence.

Visual Arts accepted: Ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and mixed media. The use of recycled/found items can be incorporated into the artwork. Offensive artwork will not be accepted (for example, it must not depict violent, sexual or racist themes). Artwork will be exhibited at the Wamuran Earth Protectors Recycle Romp (Sunday 13th November 2016)-held during National Recycling Week. There will be a wide-ranging audience participating at the Event, including young people, families, seniors and community groups and entrants need to be sensitive to all potential audiences.

Important Conditions of Display: When submitting your artwork, you must also provide a method to display your artwork ie. Easel or other methods. (it is unlikely there will be sufficient wall space to hang art work) Tables will be provided for artworks that can be placed on a flat surface. Video/Film may be presented at the Green Popcorn Movie as part of the Recycle Romp event. All artwork displays will be roped off from the public and monitored at the event by an event organiser to ensure submitted artworks do not get damaged.

Guidelines for artwork
Size and Weight

  • Must be able to be transported easily by two people
  • Must be easily installed by the Event Staff

Health and Safety

The artwork must pass a risk assessment for display of items in public spaces including:

  • no mouldy, toxic materials or materials deemed unsafe
  • no sharp/pointy items
  • no heavy items which are not well secured
  • a stable base to ensure the artwork does not fall over

Electrical

LED lighting only as we cannot guarantee positioning of items near power points

Eligibility

To be eligible to enter this competition, a person must:

  • In-order for an applicant to be eligible for the cash prize, the applicant must be 13 years of age or older.
  • Children 5 years to 12 years of age can enter and submit their artwork, however, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will not receive a cash prize but will instead receive a gift bag.
  • If the applicant is under 18 years of age they must have a parent or guardian complete the online form.
  • The applicant must not be directly related to one or more of the judges.

Re-Draw: If the winner does not claim the prize or cannot be contacted by telephone or email within 14 days of the competition draw date, the Promoter will offer the prize to the entrant who receives the second highest number of votes and so on.

No Liability of Event Organizers: The event organizers accepts no responsibility for late, misplaced, lost or ineligible submissions. To the extent permitted by law, the event organizers are not liable for any loss or damage which is suffered (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss) or for any personal injury sustained in connection with the entry into the competition. This paragraph is not intended to exclude any liability which cannot be excluded under Australian consumer protection laws.

Important – Entrant Warranty: By entering into this competition, the entrant warrants that their respective artwork entry is their own original work, and that they have the right to authorise the following:

  • By submitting an application form, you are consenting to The Wamuran Earth Protectors/ Event organisers to take photographs of your artwork to be displayed on the Wamuran Earth Protectors facebook page and/or the Wamuran State School facebook page and/or the Living Laboratory facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/livinglaboratory.professorjellybean this is the sponsors site). Photos may be used for future promotion of past and future events
  • Photographs of your artwork to be taken by members of the public and/or media.
  • Consent to the name of the entrant (in whole or in part) being acknowledged as the author of the entrant’s respective Wamuran Art Competition artwork entry
  • Acknowledges and accepts that the Event Organisers are not obliged to use the entrant’s respective artwork entry(s) and/or their name on any such materials or in any media.

Changes to Terms: Event organisers reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition at any time without notice or further recourse to the entrants.
