You'll meet your National Parks and Wildlife Discovery Ranger across the Island's footbridge and share the experiences of this nationally significant place. Bare Island, at European contact was associated with the Gweagal and Kameygal Aboriginal groups and referred to by Captain Cook as a “small bare island”. Since those early times, the island has experienced a variety of uses and recognition, from being a late nineteenth century coastal defence site, a veterans home and site location for the film Mission Impossible 2.
