Event description

Description

Walan Mayinygu is a Charles Sturt University initiative offering a full week program (a ‘pop up hub’) of business workshops and masterclasses for current or aspiring Indigenous entrepreneurs.

The program will offer a multi layered Youth component for school aged Indigenous students from years 5 through to year 12 to introduce entrepreneurship with a focus on bringing young people’s innovative and creative ideas to life in each pop up hub.

The program will feature an introduction to entrepreneurship, guest talks from successful Indigenous entrepreneurs, networking activities, role plays, yarning circles and students will be able to pitch their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges at the end of the day.

The Youth Program will be an opportunity for regional young people to:

v Participate in engaging entrepreneurial and tech based activities

v Listen to inspirational Indigenous entrepreneurs

v Engage with other regional Indigenous young people in collaboratively designing social business ideas

v Develop their own innovative business idea/s and pitch these to a panel of entrepreneurs

The Youth Program will be co-facilitated by Rebecca Harcourt (UNSW) and Liam Ridgeway (NGNY) along with a team of Indigenous entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurial Indigenous students who will act as mentors and guide students through each component of the program throughout the day.

Young People will be split into three main groups – Years 5/6/7 (GROUP ONE), Years 8/9 (GROUP TWO), and Years 10/11/12 (GROUP THREE). Each group will have a Walan Mayinygu youth team leader to work with to ensure they get the most out of the program and answer any questions or queries along the way.

Our aim is to inspire, motivate and engage with Indigenous students, demystifying the world of business and giving them tools and insights about how they can pursue a career in business and strengthen the AustralianIndigenous entrepreneurial sector.
