WACE Global Conversation
With almost any region developing more of a global workforce, companies strategizing to develop a global presence, and a greater significance to anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion, there is a growing need to develop intercultural competence in both students and employers or WIL hosts. Even today, while much of our work is remote, it does not take away the fact that we are working with a complex mix of diverse people and different work cultures. The capability to be effective in these diverse intercultural settings is a key contributor to not just a successful WIL experience, but to successfully navigating the 21st century globalized professional workplace.
In this workshop, Karima Ramji and Shabnam (Shay) Ivković will introduce the practitioner aspects of the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) model for developing intercultural competencies. CQ is a globally recognized way of assessing and improving effectiveness in culturally diverse situations. The intent of sharing this model with the larger global WIL practitioner community is to develop knowledge capital on how we, as a community, can advance intercultural effectiveness within our student and employer stakeholders. In the workshop, small working groups will explore tangible activities and best practices that students and employers can engage in toward building cultural intelligence through at-location opportunities, remote opportunities, and in better understanding global problems.
