Event description

Description

WA Youth Work Code of Ethics Training

This one day training workshop will assist youth workers to develop their understanding of ethical practices - based on the Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA - and apply this knowledge in their work. The training will introduce participants to the Code, and to the suite of materials developed by Youth Work WA and YACWA, aimed at embedding the Code in youth work practice, programs and organisations in WA. By the end of the workshops participants will be able to:

  • List the advantages and disadvantages of having a Code of Ethics

  • Discuss the principles of the Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA

  • Reflect upon their own ethical behaviour

  • Practice decision making using the Code

  • Develop ideas on how to ensure the Code is embedded in their own and their organisations work

  • Challenge unethical behaviour

Participants will receive:

  • The WA Youth Work Code of Ethics with commentary

  • A poster version of the Code for display in their organisation

  • A poster of the Code of Ethics written especially for young people

  • A guide for the implementation of the Code in their organisation

  • A set of Code of Ethics cards

The development of the WA Youth Work Code of Ethics was completed in partnership between Youth Work WA and the Youth Affairs Council of WA.
