Event description

Description

Plese note the date has changed.

The Women's Climate Justice collective is proud to host an overnight camp on the 17th and 18th March 2018.

We are holding this camp to:

· learn about how climate change affects women’s lives and our rights

· build our skills to create change

· make plans for how we can as women highlight our rights and demand action on climate change.

The camp will be held on a bush property and to keep costs low we will be camping and catering on site. We want the camp to be as accessible as possible to a diversity of women, if camping is not suitable please chat to us so we can work out alternative options.

Families are welcome. Whilst participation in the workshops will be a women’s only space there will be families and men in attendance at the camp. We will be providing child care on site where needed and if you have partners/allies who would like to support the camp there are opportunities to attend and support in the logistics of the weekend.

Numbers are limited so please book in as soon as possible. If you have questions feel free to email Jaime on jaime@rraft.com.au or call on 0406 722066.

We know for some getting to Nannup may be a challenge so we are looking to support car pooling and pick ups from public transport hubs.

This event is welcoming to women, trans* and non-binary people in all their diversities.

If the cost is prohibitive, or you need financial support to travel to the camp please call Jaime or email jaime@rraft.com.au

In the weeks before the camp we will send specific details regarding location and what you will need to bring.

*****

The Women’s Climate Justice Collective is a group of Australian women who want action on climate change to address issues of women’s human rights.

Climate change is affecting and will affect every aspect of women’s lives. Extensive research shows that during and after disasters like floods, bushfires or droughts, women experience issues such as increased violence from men, less access to health services and contraception, and a higher risk of unemployment and poverty.

These issues are particularly significant for women of colour, women with disabilities, LBTI women and rural women. Currently men heavily dominate governments and groups that make decisions about climate change, but women are rising up throughout Australia and internationally demanding our rights in the climate crisis.

Some of the objectives of the Women's Climate Justice Collective are to;

Share information about how climate change affects women’s lives and our rights

Build women’s skills to empower women to take action on climate change

Make plans for ways that women can highlight our rights and demand action on climate change.

Provide a support network for women from a wide variety of backgrounds wanting to take action on climate change.

*****

We understand and apologise that women from interstate and Northern WA may not be able to attend the camp at short notice and would like to advise that we plan to run another camp in the new year. We have chosen to start with a small camp in WA just to get started.
