Description

WA CodeMakers @ECU

ECU’s School of Science (Computer & Security Science) students will be hosting a series of lessons on coding with BBC Micro: Bits for 12- 18-year-olds (students in Years 7-12).

WA CodeMakers will run each week at ECU Joondalup during the school term. Each week students will explore new concepts related to computing and security science such as Variables, Conditionals, Boolean logic, Algorithms, and Data Structures. We will use visual, general purpose and object-oriented programming to work on projects that draw on newly developed skills.

***Each week you will build your knowledge from the previous week***

We are fortunate to have several skilled volunteer ECU students who as tutors will teach you the fundamentals of computing and security sciences, demonstrate cool programming methods and help you to create games and apps as well as make devices.

Primarily we will be using BBC Micro: bits to develop projects and execute our ideas. Each week, we will make BBC Micro: bits available to students, however, if you wish to purchase one ($30) for yourselves then please see us for payment details in Week 2.

BBC Micro: bits can be used for all sorts of cool creations, from robots to musical instruments – the possibilities are endless. This little device has 25 red LED lights, accelerometer, Bluetooth, compass, two programmable buttons The BBC Micro: bit can detect motion and tell you which direction you’re heading in, and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices and the Internet – clever! taken from http://microbit.org/about/
