Description

Estate Planning and Trust Management in a Brave New World: It’s All in the Family…What’s a Family?

The QUT Faculty of Law invites you to the 20th Annual W A Lee Equity Lecture presented by R. Hugh Magill. The W A Lee Equity Lecture is held each year in honour of foremost equity and trusts academic and author Honorary Professor W A 'Tony' Lee. CPD points may be available for this lecture.

Overview:

Many of the concepts that shape our approach to estate planning are products of a dramatically different era; an era where the majority of families were ‘nuclear’ with biological or adopted children.

Changes in marriage and family structures, increasing cultural diversity, artificial reproductive practices, and assumptions about life expectancy and mortality will be discussed. The needs of modern families are evolving and present an opportunity to re-examine our traditional planning paradigm. What are the predominant traits of the generations (the Greatest, Boomer, Gen X and Millennial generations) and what role do they play in today’s estate planning process?

In light of generational attributes and demographic changes, the implications for estate planning and wealth allocation, trust design and management, family collaboration and decision making will be explored.
