Event description

Do you have patients who lose their voice, complain of throat and neck pain, or have discomfort when swallowing?
Do you understand the relationship between the larynx, neck and jaw?

Discover how Vocal Physiotherapy and manual therapy techniques can help assist you assess and manage hyperfunctional laryngeal disorders.

Vocal Physiotherapy (also known as Vocal Unloading) is a relatively new concept in physiotherapy practice. The evidence displaying the efficacy of manual therapy of the laryngeal and perilaryngeal region for hyperfunctional voice disorders is increasing.

This practical course has been designed for Speech Pathologists and will introduce you to the principles of Vocal Physiotherapy and manual therapy techniques including:

  • Assessment of head and neck posture

  • Essential laryngeal musculoskeletal anatomy

  • Palpatory assessment of laryngeal and perilaryngeal structures (and what this might mean)

  • Manual techniques and the clinical rationale for when to use them

This course provides an opportunity for you to develop knowledge in palpation, assessment and treatment skills to add to your already comprehensive speech pathology skills and thus, providing your clients further treatment options in the treatment of musculoskeletal components of voice disorders.
