Step into spring singers of Hobart with two very special Masterclass featuring award winning singer and vocal coach Elly Hoyt all the way from London, UK!

The masterclasses will be held at Battery Point Community Hall on Sunday 22nd of September.

Masterclass 1:"Breathing & Beyond" - 1:30-3:00pm

This workshop will involve up to date information on physiology and anatomy of breathing and support and interactive exercises including body mapping and accent breathing. This is aimed at healthy, holistic, sustainable vocal technique.

Masterclass 2: "Registration & Belting" - 3:30-5:00pm

This workshop aims to clarify terminology and understanding around registration and will include the latest discussions in CCM singing. It will involve laryngeal physiology and mechanics of phonation as well as interactive exercises for healthy, holistic and sustainable belting technique.

AGE LIMIT:

We recommend singers from age 14+ who have had some form of professional vocal training to adults.

ABOUT:

Elly Hoyt is an Australian jazz and contemporary vocalist and singing teacher currently living in London, UK. She holds a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Voice and a Masters of Music Studies majoring in Vocal Pedagogy from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. She has also completed one year of a two year Masters of Jazz performance at New England Conservatory of music, Boston, USA.

Through out her studies she has developed a detailed technical understanding of vocal function, physiology and anatomy, stylistic requirements of contemporary voice as well as excellent practical skills in teaching healthy vocal technique. In her teaching practice, she incorporates methods from both classical and contemporary models and strongly believes that it is valuable to use a range of methods to suit different students’ needs. Singing technique and performance longevity for all singers of all contemporary styles is her first priority. Elly is a member of ANATS (The Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing) and attends relevant industry conferences and workshops. She has attended the International Congress of Voice Teachers conference and notably, her skills and experience were recognised when she was asked to present to leading practitioners at the Australian Voice Association (AVA) conference for World Voice Day in 2014. The AVA also gave her an award in recognition of her contributions as a voice teacher

Elly has over 10 years’ experience in teaching voice to individuals and groups. She currently teaches in higher education including vocal technique/s and styles at BIMM (British and Irish Institute of Modern Music) London, UK and most recently was a faculty member at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University where she taught one on one singing lessons to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Elly has worked directly under Dr Irene Bartlett who is the head of the pedagogy and undergraduate programs. Her responsibilities in this role also included assessing students’ performance examinations and prospective students’ entry examinations, running workshops and assisting with choral direction.

Elly has extensive performance experience and recognition. Notably, she has performed at World Expo (Shanghai), Bar 55 (New York), Schoss Almau (Germany), won the Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship (judged by James Morrison) in 2008, a ‘Bell Award’ for Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album in 2011, Marten Bequest Traveling Scholarship (2015), and has been nominated twice for a Freedman Fellowship (2013 & 2019). She has performed for Prince Charles and Camilla, supported Kenny Barron, sung at Xavier Rudd’s wedding and performed alongside Katie Noonan, James Morrison, Kristin Berardi, and Sarah McKenzie to name a few.
