Description

There are currently thousands of creative arts students at school, university and TAFE - but what happens when study ends? Recent creative arts graduates are usually forced to wear multiple hats, juggling casual jobs with freelancing and accidental entrepreneurship to get by.

GRAD SHOW is a personal and practical interactive seminar that looks at the next steps for graduates of any creative arts course, including screen, performing arts, writing, visual art, music and design. We’ll address the elephant in the economic room – while creative industry is booming, and creativity plays a vital role in driving economic development, arts graduates are very unlikely to find a full-time job.

Panellists have been chosen from a cross-section of creative arts, and include:

  • Ally McLean: Games maker and 2018 AWW Woman of the Future;
  • Genevieve Clay-Smith: Filmmaker and 2015 NSW Young Australian of the Year;
  • Amrita Hepi: Award winning first nations artist, choreographer and dancer;
  • Michael Simms: Multi-award winning visual artist and winner of the 2018 Royal Art Society of NSW Young Artist Prize.

In the first half panellist will share their own experiences, and accept questions from the audience. In the second half Panellists and participants will work together to document practical tips and brainstorm outcomes to be used to shape the future for other creative arts graduates

The workshop will be followed with a casual and catered networking event to allow participants to get to know each other and discuss their next steps.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Recent graduates will be encouraged to attend GRAD SHOW, as well as progressive educators from the creative arts sector.
