Ever wanted to turn your creative dream into a business reality? Are you already freelancing and want to know if you’re doing things properly? This fast, fun and information-packed workshop covers all the basics for creative people who want to work for themselves. It includes:
- Setting goals and planning your business journey;
- Understanding and handling money matters;
- Introduction to creative tax and law resources;
- Marketing tips and juggling the realities of combining art and business.
This workshop is ideal for recent graduates, freelancers and anyone struggling with the business aspects of their creativity. It's also relevant no matter what your profession – filmmakers, writers, designers, visual artists, musicians, composers, dancers, performers – everyone can benefit from a quick introduction or refresher to the basics of business.
Top Ten Tips for Creative Business is presented by creative industries expert Monica Davidson from the Creative Plus Business Group. Monica is a writer and filmmaker by trade who learned how to run a successful creative business and now shares that knowledge with others. She now works exclusively to help other creative people start, build and grown their own businesses.
All participants of this Masterclass also receive a printed workbook, a PDF copy of the same workbook, and access to a dedicated webpage full of links and resources to help them get ahead in their creative business.
The workshop is relaxed and informal, you can ask all the questions you’ve never been able to ask before, and participants will also be given ample opportunity to network and get to know each other.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
This event is open to all ages – but be warned, Monica is a fan of ‘colourful’ language!
What's the address again?
We are in DARLINGHURST, not Paddington! Between Crown and Riley streets, opposite the ANZ bank.
Can I park? Should I drive?
Street parking is very limited. What little is available is timed and costs roughly $4.50 per hour. There is a Wilson parking station nearby at 46 Riley Street which is more reasonable - the flat rate is $15 per day on weekends. It's about 10 minutes walk from our location.
What are my public transport options getting to the event?
BY TRAIN: The closest railway station is Museum, and the venue is a short walk up Oxford Street. BY BUS: All of the Oxford Street buses go past our building and will drop you at the nearest stop near the corner of Crown Street. The 440 and the M10 also come from Central.
Do you offer concessions?
Not usually. We think the price offering is already reasonable, but feel free to get in touch if you’re very strapped for cash and we’ll see what we can do.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
You can give your ticket to someone else to use, but there will be no refunds if you can't attend. Let us know in advance if you can’t attend and we’ll try and pop you in another masterclass.
Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office on 02 8091 2082.
