Vivacissimo 2016. Annual musical program of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney
For the 7th appointment of the Vivacissimo! 2016 concert series, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present a recital by guitarist Gian Marco Ciampa, who will perform music by D. Scarlatti, N. Paganini, F. Tarrega, A. Barrios, M. Castelnuovo Tedesco and A. Kampela.
Born in Rome in 1990, Gian Marco Ciampa graduated with distinction and the highest honors, (Menzione d’Onore) in the class of Maestro Arturo Tallini at the Conservatorio “Santa Cecilia” in Rome. Since childhood, Ciampa has participated and won numerous national and international music competitions, but it was in 2012 that he obtained highest recognition as winner of the Concorso Internazionale “Niccolò Paganini”, and in 2013 as winner of the prestigious European competition, the “Enrico Mercatali”, for which he received the prize “Medaglia del Presidente della Repubblica”. In the summer of 2011 he enrolled in a guitar course at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena, that was taught by Maestro Oscar Ghiglia, after which Ciampa obtained a Diploma with merit and a scholarship for the most outstanding student.
From a very young age, Ciampa has been extensively engaged in concert activity performing nationally and internationally at prominent institutions. This includes the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing; the Academy of Opera of Peking University; the New York City Classical Guitar Society, Manhattan Theatre; the Omis International Guitar Festival; the Sala Sinopoli – Auditorium Parco della Musica, and the Sala Accademica – Conservatorio Santa Cecilia (Rome); the Chiostro di Santa Cecilia – San Giacomo Festival (Bologna); La casa della Musica (Parma); the Chitarrissima Guitar Festival (Torino); the Teatro Manzoni (Pistoia); and the Palazzo Chigi Saracini – Accademia Chigiana (Siena).
In 2014 Ciampa won a scholarship to attend the notable “New York Mannes College” that led to him performing in a series of concerts around in the USA, including the famous New York City Classical Guitar Society at the Manhattan Theatre. In the same year he won the Third Prize of the very prestigious international competition the “Concorso Internazionale Michele Pittaluga”, and was awarded the “Chitarra d’oro” from the Comitato scientifico of the same competition, as best young talent. On the occasion of the Milan Expo 2015, Ciampa was invited to perform as classical guitarist to showcase Italian classical guitar at the U.S.A. Pavillion.
Throughout his career Ciampa has been dedicated to classical guitar as well as electric guitar. In 2013 he originated and created the project “SUPERNOVA” of which Maestro Arturo Tallini is Artistic Director. SUPERNOVA is a guitar ensemble made up of eight young Italian guitarists who were winners of important international competitions. Ciampa frequently participates in Masterclasses both in Italy and abroad, and has been teaching classical and electric guitar at the Civica Scuola delle Arti for many years.
