Vivacissimo 2016. Yearly music program of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney
Anna Schivazappa, mandolin - Claudio Fontana, piano
For the 9th appointment of its Vivacissimo! 2016 series the Italian Cultural Institute has the pleasure of presenting a concert by mandolinist Anna Schivazappa and pianist Claudio Fontana, who will present a programme dedicated to works for mandolin composed by Raffaele Calace, Vittorio Monti, Gennaro Napoli and Eduardo Mezzacapo.
Anna Schivazappa fell in love very young with the gentle, but at the same time brilliant, tone of the mandolin, which she studied at masterclasses on early music in Urbino and at the Conservatory of Music in Padua (Italy), where she obtained her diploma with distinction. She has received several prizes at many musical competitions, and she is regularly invited to major festivals and concert seasons all over Europe and abroad (Italy, France, Germany, Australia and Central America). Besides her concert activity, she is also interested in musicological research, and she is currently pursuing a PhD in musicology at the Sorbonne University in Paris. She is co-founder of the ensemble Pizzicar Galante, one of the most dynamic period ensembles specializing in gallant music for mandolin and basso continuo. Pizzicar Galante's first album, which has been released in 2016 by Brilliant Classics, has already been praised by the specialized press and has been recently broadcast by international radio stations such as RAI Radio 3 and the BBC.
A sensible and curious personality, attracted from an early age to music and mathematics, Claudio Fontana obtained a Master's degree with distinction in piano performance from the Conservatory of Music of Padua (Italy), under the guidance of Daniele Roi. A versatile pianist, he loves to travel through the vast romantic piano repertoire, which he perfected in a series of masterclasses, with a special attention to the works of Chopin. He has performed in Italy and abroad, giving many concert and lectures, notably on Schubert’s chamber music, in schools and universities. Claudio is also an accomplished chamber musician and performs regularly in duo with mandolinist Anna Schivazappa, aiming at rediscovering of the romantic and classical repertoire for mandolin and piano.
