About this Event

3pm - For a viewing of the Duldig Studio and the collection of works of art by Karl and Slawa Duldig including the current exhibition “Slawa: Modernist Art & Design: Art, innovation and reinvention - discover the world of a Viennese modernist in Melbourne”.

For the first time an exhibition by the Austrian-Australian artist, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig (1901-1975), is shown in the home she shared with husband sculptor Karl Duldig - now a house museum. Presenting her early graphic works and sculptures, remarkable survivors of war and dislocation, the exhibition gives insight into Viennese art of the early modernist period. Follow SLAWA's story – told through her drawings, sculptures, fashion and furniture design, and her ingenious invention of the folding umbrella.

The Duldig collection comprises works of art including sculpture in a variety of media including wood, terracotta, bronze and marble, drawings and paintings on paper and canvas and an important collection of hand crafted pottery. Interpretation of the collection centres around its significance in Australian social history and fine arts, ongoing Duldig family associations and living memories and the collection's rare domestic setting in a house museum.

The afternoon activity will begin at 3pm with a viewing of the house museum, studio and sculpture garden, and afternoon tea.
