Event Details

Visible Mending - Sashiko Stitching

You are invited to join us for a relaxing evening of creative slow sewing with Gaye Naismith from the Gaye Abandon School of Sewing and Upcycling.

Bring your old favourites back to life

A number of distinct visible mending techniques can be used to repair garments. While patching and darning are traditional approaches, this workshop will focus on Sashiko Stitching, a beautiful and decorative hand sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. Using the Sashiko technique you will discover the many creative stitching possibilities you can use to repair, reinforce, or simply enhance garments in need of some love.

Bring with you: Your favourite jeans or clothing items that have threadbare spots, rips or holes. Fabric scraps for patching.

PLEASE NOTE: This session is a repeat of session #1

This workshop is part of the 'Living for our Future Program', a community sustainable living initiative of the City of Boroondara. Stay up to date about future events and resources by visiting our Living for our Future webpage or by signing up for our e-newsletter.
