Event description

Description

An exhilarating and visceral film, Carriberrie uses 360 degree video to immerse the viewer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance, song and music. Beginning in the heart of the country at Uluru, actor and dancer David Gulpilil guides us across Australia in a concentric, snake-like journey through time and space. We journey from traditional ceremonial dance and song to contemporary performance.

Intimate, immersive and breath-taking, this live-action VR documentary showcases a stunning range of Australian locations and performances. From iconic ceremonial traditional dance in Uluru, through rain making and funeral songs in the desert, and out into Darwin to rock out with Lonely Boys before culminating in a contemporary dance performance at the Sydney Opera House from Australia’s Indigenous performing company, Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Join us for the world premiere of this exciting work screening throughout March as part of Weave, our Festival of Aboriginal and Pacific Cultures.

Bookings essential. Please visit www.carriberrie.com for more info on the film.

All tickets include a self-guided visit of the First Nations galleries. All daytime tickets include general admission to the Australian Museum.

This program is only available for adults and youth aged 13 and up. For enquiries please email programs@austmus.gov.au or call (02) 9320 6311.
